The Tenant Project

Not All Landlords Are the Problem

Fighting bad practice, not good landlords.

Why This Campaign Matters

We know most landlords aren’t the problem. But those who break the law are making the rest of the industry look bad.

Dodgy landlords and agents hurt more than just tenants – they damage trust across the entire rental sector. They ignore safety laws, pressure tenants out unlawfully, and charge banned fees, knowing enforcement is weak and tenants often won’t fight back.
The result? Good landlords get lumped in with bad ones. Public trust falls. Regulation increases.

We believe the way to fix this isn’t more red tape – it’s fair enforcement against those who treat the law like it doesn’t matter.

This Campaign Doesn’t Target You

If you protect deposits, issue certificates, follow notice periods, and respect your tenants’ rights – you’re not who we’re campaigning against.

The Tenant Project is calling for meaningful consequences when the law is broken – but only for those who choose to break it.

We want to prevent tenants from being exploited and empower them when they need to fight back. But we also want to protect ethical landlords and letting agents from being tarnished by the worst of the industry.

Why We Want You Involved

We believe ethical landlords should be recognised – not penalised.

We’re building a network of ethical landlords and letting agents who want to see the rental sector cleaned up – for good.

As the campaign builds momentum, we’ll be releasing Supporter Packs which will include a ‘digital badge’ for websites and email footers, plus we’ll look at building a ‘supporters’ page on our website to help recognise ethical landlords and letting agents.

In the meantime:
